The Big Picture

Look: another old warehouse in East Austin has been reborn as an art space, except this one actually says "library" out loud. The Ostillo Art Foundation opens Saturday at 2600 Rosewood Ave. with gallery, library and performance space aimed at serving the Rosewood neighborhood.

What Changed

Founder Sacha Zerbib partnered with local developer René Campos to convert a black, industrial exterior into a public-facing arts venue. The foundation's inaugural exhibition, Masquerade, is curated by Zerbib and opens with Glenn Ligon’s painting Masquerade and other works reflecting masks as both concealment and expression.

What's Next

The Ostillo Art Foundation will host the Eastside Kings Festival — a series of concerts in late October celebrating African American blues, jazz and gospel — and plans to show work by artists from eight nationalities in the opening exhibit. Admission to the new space is free.

Yes, it is a warehouse-to-museum story Austiners have heard before; this one at least comes with a library and a promise to lean into Rosewood’s history rather than erase it.
