The Big Picture
Local ritual upgraded: the spot that gets Hyde Park going in the morning now wants to keep you from going home too early. Terrible Love Wine opened Sept. 18 at 3908 Avenue B in the Baker Center, sharing a wall with Terrible Love Coffee’s walk-up counter so the neighborhood can move from first espresso to last pour without leaving the block. The new bar leans into natural and underrepresented producers and organizes its by-the-glass list by style — sparkling, mineral white, skin contact, chilled red, Texas red and more — a menu choice that teaches you how to like things you didn’t know you liked.
What Changed
The business has expanded from a morning trailer-turned-boiler-room coffee operation into the Baker School’s former band room, turning a daytime ritual into an evening destination. Where Terrible Love Coffee served espresso and drip from Huckleberry Roasters and cold brew and pour-over from Mercado Sin Nombre, Terrible Love Wine puts Kendall Jackson in charge of pours and a concise food lineup: a jambon beurre with Nougatine Bakery baguette, baguette and butter, cheese plates, charcuterie, vegan chickpea salad, and rotating tinned fish with crackers and cornichons. The change returns a dedicated neighborhood wine bar to Hyde Park after Vino Vino’s long-closed presence on Guadalupe.
